Generally, the direct fix is to increase RAID size, which will maximize the performance of server computers by having more disk space on RAID 5. What will you do if the RAID is out of space like the above two cases?

Also, you can no longer save data in the drive. When the RAID 5 disk is with low disk space, it will highly affect the Server speed and the computer performance. How do I add a 4th drive to the RAID 5 array?" Can I expand RAID 5 without destroying my data and OS?"Ĭase 2: "I've got a Compaq M元70G2 with three drives in a RAID5 array connected to a 5i controller. Breaks the limit of hardware RAID controllerĬase 1: "I have ML 350 G5 Server with 3 Hard disks currently configure RAID 5.Faster in Reading and Writing than SoftRAID 5.Uses the processing power of the operating system to combines multiple physical disks into one or more logical units.Uses RAID cards or controllers to manage multiple disks working together to increase overall system performance for computer users, especially Server users. Here is a comparison of HardRaid 5 and SoftRaid 5: It's important to learn the differences between the two types of RAID drives. HardRAID 5 VS SoftRAID 5, What's The DifferencesĪs the ways to extend HardRaid 5 disk and SoftRaid 5 drive are different. Once a hard drive fails, RAID 5 can rebuild the failed drive using the parity data without losing any files. When data is written to a RAID 5 drive, the system calculates parity and writes that parity into the drive. It is considered one of the most secure RAID configurations as RAID 5 uses parity instead of mirroring for data redundancy. RAID 5 is consists of a minimum of three hard disk drives or more drives. Generally, RAID 5 is a redundant array of independent disks configuration that uses disk striping with parity. Step 1.Install the new drive to your server computer via the connection cables. Insert drives into the server via a RAID controller and boot up the server. Extend/Expand RAID 5 Array With Unallocated Space
#SOFTRAID CONVERT VOLUME UPDATE#
It is especially irksome because I purchased a license.a "NOTE" about the omission of the "convert" feature until the next update would have been appropriate to say the least. It's like buying a car, and finding out there are no keys to get it started.you have to push start it. Thanks for pointing out this "feature" and that without it we are stuck without many of the features advertised with the SoftRaid product. I shouldn't have to worry that the features you advertise may not actually work at the moment, and that you just neglected to acknowledge this anywhere in the product description. Not an honest way to handle a bug that eliminates a prime feature of your product. This is equivalent to selling a sandwich in which you advertise great pickles, selling the sandwiches without pickles for a time due to a problem, and keeping pickles listed as an ingredient, yet just telling customers who complain about the lack of pickles that they should have tried your sampler sandwiches to figure out there were actually no pickles. This isn't legitimate reasoning behind leaving a no-longer-working feature as still viable on your features page, though.

#SOFTRAID CONVERT VOLUME TRIAL#
The 30 day trial is used by most users before purchasing, where they can determine if SoftRAID is useful to them before committing.
#SOFTRAID CONVERT VOLUME FREE#
I do realize this issue may take work and time to fix, and I appreciate your team's dedication to keeping SoftRAID a bug free and 100% stable product. We are working hard to get this feature included again as soon as possible. Convert has to be 100% reliable, in all circumstances. We apologize for not being able to convert disks, but are holding off until all issues are resolved. Version 5.2 will be able to convert volumes/disks.

There were technical reasons we had to remove this feature temporarily.
